The teaching offered by the working group is committed to the following considerations: We understand university teaching as a place where people are present and meet to engage in a discursive exchange on specialist topics, discuss them and, if necessary, present controversial views. A culture of argument is important here, which also provides factual evidence for what it presents. This professional discourse and exchange takes place in a climate of mutual respect, openness and tolerance towards other views and arguments, provided that the democratic principles of our society and the framework of the democratically constituted University of Mainz are not abandoned or jeopardized. Our courses are therefore not a place of intolerance, lack of respect and mere opinion. They are a place of academic exchange and academic (self-)education.
