Programs of study dedicated to the practices of empirical research, writing and theorizing document an increased interest in the knowledge activities of sociologists. Particular attention is paid to the question of how theory is practiced in Sociology. The doctoral dissertation follows on from this question, but shifts the perspective: it is interested in the subjects of theorizing and thus in those who practice theory, and it examines the expectations, desires and affects that accompany the practice of theory. From this perspective, theorizing is thus understood not only as a cognitive activity, but as an embodied, living (socio-individual) process that is inextricably intertwined with social, emotional and unconscious dynamics. Theory is therefore not only a “tool” of cognition, but also an expression of the subjective entanglements of the theory drivers with their objects and the (social) world. Conceptually, the work operates at the interface of science studies, psychoanalytic cultural theory and philosophical anthropology.
