Theory Constellations: A sociological study of philosophical research (working title)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philosophizing or doing philosophy is all too often understood as an activity that takes place in quiet contemplation and thoughtfulness, not only away from society but also emptied of any sociality. The aim of the dissertation project is to take a closer look at everyday philosophizing. To this end, the study examines theoretical work (in) academic philosophy as an ethnographic research subject. Philosophical research is understood as a place of experimental thinking permeated by sociality, which can usually be understood empirically as thinking in observable experimentation. The project focuses equally on university discussion formats and seemingly solitary reading and writing processes and draws on considerations from the sociology of science. What is the nature of the philosophical \u201claboratory\u201d or the \u201cepistemic thing\u201d of philosophy? With the outlined research design, the dissertation aims to place the ’empirical theory’ of an epistemic culture in the humanities alongside the sociology of scientific knowledge. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/jgu-base-section>
